Three must have products for your skin
Your skin is the biggest organ in your body and it protects you from the elements. It goes without saying that you have to give it the best care.

1. Sunscreen should be an essential component of any skin care routine. A broad spectrum, SPF 30+ sunscreen (preferably water-resistant) which protects against UVA and UVB rays is a must, not only to prevent skin cancers such as melanoma, but also to delay the signs of aging. Excessive sun exposure causes untold skin damage, leading to winkles, age spots, dry and discolored skin which looks prematurely aged. Sunscreen should be worn every day, whether in or out and reapplied every 2 hours if out and active in the sun.

Recommended products
Basic buy: Eucerin Daily Protection Sunscreen
Expert buy: Elta MD Clear sunscreen and La Roche Posay Mineral sunscreen

2. Your face is exposed to the elements throughout the day and becomes a landing pad for dust, dirt, germs and other pollutants. Washing with soap and water won’t remove all of them; soap also strips the skin of natural oils. Face wash cleans the skin without irritating it, getting rid of the excess oil and dirt embedded in the skin. Some can gently exfoliate dead skin cells, so the skin will glow afterwards but make sure not to scrub the skin.

Recommended products
Basic buy: Purpose Gentle Cleanser
Expert buy: Glytone Mild Gel wash

3. Moisturizer is skin’s best friend. Dehydrated skin not only looks dry, saggy and wrinkled, but can also result in itching, infections, inflammation and eczema flare-ups. A good moisturizer hydrates the skin allowing it to have the healthy glow we all want.

Recommended products
Basic buy: CeraVe lotion
Expert buy: SkinCeuticals Triple Lipid

Effective skincare which won’t break the bank
It is often overwhelming to walk down the skincare aisle and pick out what to put on your skin. The products and price points are so varied it’s hard to wonder if some products are “worth” their cost. Some products are physician grade, have medical science supporting their use and are fantastic. However if you’re not ready for a physician grade routine there are three basic products you can start out with:
  • Purpose gentle cleanser – True to its name, this gentle cleanser removes dust, dirt, makeup and oil from the skin without drying it out or irritating it, the way ordinary soap does. It won’t clog pores and is hypoallergenic which means it is ideal for all skin types, even the most sensitive. It’s available in a bottle with an easy-to-use pump mechanism.
  • CeraVe lotion - This lightweight, oil-free moisturizer helps hydrate skin and restore its natural barrier. It contains three essential ceramides and hyaluronic acid, and provides long-lasting (24-hour) hydration in a lightweight, non-comedogenic formula which won’t clog pores. Its hypoallergenic and non-irritating properties make it a gentle moisturizer suitable for daily use.
  • La Roche Posay mineral sunscreen – Gentle yet effective sun protection is offered by this range of Anthelios advanced UVA/UVB broad spectrum mineral sunscreens of +50 SPF. Containing ingredients like titanium dioxide and zinc oxide, these sunscreens are free of chemicals and are safe for use even on sensitive skin. The most suitable product for each skin type can be selected.
