Prevent early aging with these skin care tips
We all know those people over 40 who seem to have escaped the grasp of time and have somehow managed to maintain a youthful appearance. How do they do it? Though genetics and other uncontrollable factors do sometimes play a role, many people can maintain youthful skin late into life by maintaining good skin care habits. Here are a few we recommend:

Your skin needs plenty of moisture from the inside and the outside! Getting the right about of water will keep your skin hydrated and moisturized naturally, which will prevent early aging.

Eat Healthy
Keep your skin healthy by avoiding oily food and eat healthy fats instead such as those from nuts and fish while getting essential nutrients from vegetables and fruits.

Don’t smoke
Smoking will cause your skin to age prematurely and leave you with wrinkles and dry, sagging skin.

Clean gently
Keep your skin clean by gently rinsing off dirt every day with a gentle cleanser and warm, not hot, water. When you dry off, pat your skin dry rather than rubbing and irritating the skin.

After cleaning your skin, remember to use a dermatologist-approve moisturizer to keep your skin soft and hydrated from the outside and use lip balm for your lips.

Avoid the sun
Wear sunscreen and loose, breathable clothing that covers most of your skin when you’re out in the sun and wear a hat to shade your face. Stay in the shade whenever possible.
Summer sun left you seeing brown spots?
Are you noticing more brown spots on your skin after getting some extra sun this summer? Brown spots may appear in a number of ways, but most brown spots are directly a result of sun exposure, so you may notice them showing up after the end of summer or as you get older. Common brown spots include:
  • Freckles
  • Lentigines
  • Melasma
  • Pigmented actinic keratoses
  • Seborrheic keratoses
Though some spots like freckles are harmless, others such as pigmented actinic keratoses can actually be an early sign of skin cancer. As a result, if you notice new brown spots on your skin, it is important for you to visit us for a skin exam to rule out the possibility of cancer.

In addition to checking for cancer, we can also provide treatments to help remove your brown spots if you find them unattractive and would like to have clear skin again. We offer laser treatments, topical creams, and chemical peels that can effectively help you achieve a clear complexion. You may also want to discuss steps you can take to avoid getting more brown spots in the future by wearing appropriate clothing, avoiding the sun at certain times, and wearing sunscreen when you are in the sun for more than a few minutes. Call us today to stop seeing brown spots and to get a clear complexion.
