There is no time like the present to slather on that sunscreen. July is a natural fit for UV Safety Month. Your dermatology team wants you to have the happiest, healthiest summer, and those sunny times should carry over to the rest of the year. It's estimated that over 85% of the sun's rays penetrate down on a sunny day and up to 77% percent of the sun's UV rays can pass through clouds on a cloudy day. Overcast days aren't an excuse to skip your broad-spectrum protection!

Remember:
  • Ultraviolet rays from the sun are the main cause of skin cancer. Don't take them lightly.
  • UV light is also responsible for premature aging. Don't become wrinkly and spotted before your time!
  • Tanning beds and sunlamps may be artificial sources, but they are no safer than the "real thing." In fact, Harvard researchers report fluorescent bulbs from tanning beds mostly emit UVA rays. This type of radiation is up to 12 to 15 times the ultraviolet radiation of the natural sun.
  • Pass the message on! Kids mimic your good habits. Likewise, encourage teachers, administrators, and youth and community leaders to spread the word.
We're all in this together! Also, if it's been awhile since your last skin check, call us.

Frustrated by a flurry of fillers? A guide to your best products
There is power in having choices. But the dermal filler market can be overwhelming. Your trusted cosmetic dermatologist demystifies the abundance of fillers on the market, arriving at the best option for you. Presenters at this summer's Cosmetic Surgery and Aesthetic Dermatology Meeting offer a quick guide to today's injectables:
  • These are not Grandma's fillers. There used to be fine and hefty products. Modern fillers treat nearly any facial concern, and do so without looking like you've “had work done.”
  • Think in terms of products and not product. Today's fillers are highly-specialized. Add volume to your pucker and add a glowing, line-free appearance, for example, but do so with different fillers for different areas to achieve the results you're after.
  • Fillers are always being introduced and improved upon. HA-based fillers have been a staple; however, a new class of injectables with flexible qualities allow natural movement without the bulk when smiling. Advanced technology renders particularly smooth gels that are customized to your needs, whether cheeks need support or lips need plumping.
With some fillers, you may not need maintenance for two years! What are you waiting for? Call to enjoy the natural, lasting results.
