When to seek veterinary services for you fur family
At Bloomfield Animal Hospital we provide a full range of therapeutic treatments, medications, surgical procedures, and emergency care. However, we also want to see your pet before he or she becomes ill. Preventive veterinary services include dental cleanings, vaccinations, flea and tick repellent, diagnostics, and general examination. We also offer nutritional counselling, to help you understand your companion’s dietary needs, because this varies by species, breed, and individual medical considerations.

Spring-proof your pets
It’s not only humans that welcome the spring season; even our cats and dogs love the warm weather and being outside rather than being cooped up inside the house all day. However, there are dangers which await them like poisonous plants and pollen, toxic chemicals, dangerous animals and even getting into accidents while they are out and about. Here are some things which you should protect them from and how you can do so:
  • Some pets are also allergic to dust, mold and pollen and could suffer from sneezing, coughing, wheezing and scratching as a result of seasonal allergies.
  • Flowers like lilies are dangerous for most pets and lethal for cats.
  • It’s best to use toys when playing ‘fetch’ with your dog rather than sticks lying around as there is no guarantee what dangerous things they could be harboring.
  • Easter falls this month. Make sure your cats and dogs don’t come across any chocolates which are extremely toxic to them.
  • Make sure they have plenty of water and shade when playing outside and never leave them locked in a car in warm weather.
  • Regularly check them for ticks and fleas.
  • Ensure they are secure when being transported and never allow them to put their head out of the car window. Collar, leash and harness are musts for a dog.
  • If your pet seems sick or uncomfortable, immediately consult your veterinarian.
