A guide to emergency preparedness for your pet
During these festive months, we don’t want to rain on your parade. But to ensure your holiday remains a happy one, your friends in pet health recommend adding several items to your disaster kit. Don’t have a disaster kit yet? There is no time like the summer and its volatile weather to get started. Consider your pet when preparing for emergencies by:
  • Understanding their favorite hiding places. When time is of the essence, you’ll know where to look for them.
  • Pack enough food, water, and bowls to last three days in the event of an evacuation.
  • Paper towels, disposable bags, disinfectants, litter, and newspaper allow for hygienic waste disposal and are necessary for any disaster kit.
  • Extra collars, tags, harnesses, and leashes should be included and, yes, kitty needs these items, too.
  • Don’t forget a two-week supply of medications, copy of current prescriptions, and first-aid
  • Label all sturdy crates and carriers with your pertinent info.
A lot of people are on your side when the worst strikes. But a little planning goes a long way to smooth the transition during a trying time.
